BACK CARRIES

Please note that back carries can be done at different developmental stages for different carriers. We always advise practicing over a soft surface, like a sofa or bed, or with a spotter, and advise the caregiver to have mastered front carries in the carrier first. Back carries are NOT safe in stretchy wraps, such as the Moby, Boba, Solly, etc. wraps.

For SSC/buckle carriers and onbuhimos: Recommended when baby can sit unassisted.

For meh dais and woven wraps: Advanced users who have mastered front and hip carries can begin using back carries with infants. Otherwise, we suggest we recommended beginning back carries when a child has very good trunk and head control (i.e. assisted sitting or does not tip over when held on the hip with one arm.)

For ring sling: Not generally recommended.  May be done with experienced ring sling users and a compliant baby who can sit unassisted and will not push out in a back carry position.
